Alexander von Bentheim

Alexander von Bentheim (born April 1931 in Jena ; † December 12, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German journalist . He worked as a presenter of the Berliner Abendschau on the broadcaster Free Berlin and the ARD Tagesthemen .

Life

He grew up in Berlin . At the beginning of the 1950s he trained as a typesetter in a printing company and was an amateur boxer . From 1953 to 1955 he worked in the Tempelhof printing house as an advertisement seller for Ullstein Verlag .

Bentheim became a radio reporter for the broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB). On September 1, 1958, he was one of the first editors of the local TV news Berliner Abendschau , for which he soon moderated as one of the Anchormen . In 1962 he reported on Peter Fechter's failed escape from the Berlin Wall , in 1963 on the visit of US President John F. Kennedy to Berlin, in 1964 he started the series Berliner Strasse today , which was supposed to show East Berliners the west of the city.

He also commented on sports broadcasts for ARD , especially boxing matches and ice hockey games . 1970 to 1972 he was the face of the ARD's Olympic magazine . From 1978 to 1980 he was the founding moderator of ARD Tagesthemen with Klaus Stephan and Wolf von Lojewski . In 1983 he initiated the SFB series Rückblende and moderated the morning format Umschau for ARD . In 1990, von Bentheim took early retirement due to health problems.

His daughter Irina von Bentheim is an editor at RBB and voice actress . His son Nicolai von Bentheim (1960-2001) worked as an actor and voice actor. Bentheim was friends with the boxer Bubi Scholz , the painter Reinhold W. Timm and the boxing promoter Klaus Speer .
