At the end of August 1915, General Ewert was promoted to commander in chief of the western front, which was pushed back between Lida and Prypiat . After the unsuccessful battle on Lake Naratsch in March 1916, he also took part in the Brusilov offensive in the summer of the same year . The attacks he made at Baranowitschi could be repulsed by the German army division Woyrsch .
