Alexei David Sayle (born August 7, 1952 in Liverpool , England ) is a British comedian , actor and author .

Life

Sayle was born and raised in Liverpool. His mother, Molly, was of Lithuanian - Jewish descent and his father was British. Both parents were members of the British Communist Party . He himself joined the Maoist Communist Party of Britain (Marxist-Leninist) in 1968. After graduating from high school in Liverpool, he attended Chelsea College of Art and Design in London . Sayle has been married to Linda Rawsthorn since 1974. On January 3, 2009, he and a thousand others took part in the protest against Operation Cast Lead in London.

Career

Sayle began his career as an MC in the London comedy club The Comedy Store . In 1980 he was discovered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by producer Martin Lewis , who then worked for him as a manager. Sayle became a senior member of The Comic Strip group and ran his own show on the London radio station Capital Radio called Alexei Sayle And The Fish People , for which he won a Sony Radio Award . Over the next few years he published several comedy albums and toured Australia for nine weeks with The Comic Strip group . In 1982 he was first seen on a television show.

In 1984 he wrote the song Ullo John! Gotta New Motor? which made it into the UK's Top 20 charts. After that, Sayle appeared in many television series and films and also became a well-known voice-over artist. He also released two more singles: Didn't You Kill My Brother? and Meanwhile on Panic , which parodies the cover of Michael Jackson's album Off The Wall .

In 1985 he appeared in the sci-fi series Doctor Who . In 1988 he played the role of Trinculo in the play The Tempest , which was staged in London's Old Vic Theater . Since the late 1980s, Sayle had three own sketch shows called Alexei Sayle's Stuff (1988-1991), The All New Alexei Sayle Show (1994-1995) and Alexei Sayle's Merry-Go-Round (1998), which were broadcast on BBC Two . Sayle received an Emmy in 1989 for his Stuff series . Sayle worked as a fictional character actor in films. He played roles in films such as Gorky Park (1983) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). In 1992 he was also in the last film in the Carry-on… film series Do it again to see Columbus in the role of Achmed .

In 2008 Sayle presented his new three-part television show Alexei Sayle's Liverpool after his hometown Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture . He is also active as a book author and has published five books and two short stories so far.
