Alexei Vladimirovich Stanchinsky
Alexei Stanchinsky ( Russian Алексей Владимирович Станчинский ; born March 9, jul. / 21st March 1888 greg. In the village Obolsunowo, Vladimir province , † September 19 jul. / 2. October 1914 greg. In Smolensk ) was a Russian composer and Pianist .
Youth and education
Stantschinski's musical talent showed at an early stage. At the age of six he played his own compositions on the piano , from the age of twelve he received private lessons in Moscow from Josef Lhévinne and Alexander Grechaninov . After graduating from high school, he studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Konstantin Igumnow , Sergei Taneyev and Nikolai Schiljajew .
Musical work
Stantschinski wrote his first piano works in the years 1907–1910. Even at that time he was considered an outstanding talent. However, he suffered from mental health problems, which is why he spent a year in a mental hospital . After his release, he wrote his most important works, all for piano: three sonatas , twelve sketches and preludes in canon form . Stanchinsky tried to combine modality , polyphony and Alexander Scriabin's atonal composition technique with the melodic themes of the tradition of Russian classical music. The piano technique that his compositions require is extremely difficult. Its last performance at the Moscow Conservatory on March 2, 1914, was a great success, according to critics.
Stanchinsky died of cardiac arrest in the autumn of 1914 at the age of 26 near the village of Logaschiowo (near Smolensk) while crossing an ice-cold river.
Non-musical legacy
In addition to his compositions, Stanchinsky also left a literary work. This includes two extensive diaries, drafts for plays, libretti and a large number of poems.
