Alfons Maria Augner

Alfons Maria Augner OSB (born June 10, 1862 in Lucerne as Stephan Augner ; † September 8, 1938 in Bozen ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . From 1913 until his death he was abbot of the Muri-Gries Abbey in Bozen ( South Tyrol ).

Augner attended primary school in Lucerne and then the Benedictine-run college in Sarnen (today's Obwalden cantonal school ). There he joined the Subsilvania high school fraternity . In 1882 he put in Gries profession from 1886 followed in Trento the priesthood . He then worked as a parish assistant in Marling for ten months . In 1887 he took over the office of novice master in Gries , which he held until 1903. From 1892 he was also subprior in Gries, from 1897 dean . In February 1913 Augner was elected Abbot of Muri and Prior of Gries. In 1923 the fascist government forced the abbey to close the teachers ' college it ran. Augner then decided to move the novitiate to Sarnen.
