Alfons Stollreither (* 1881 ; † 1954 in Bad Tölz ) was mayor of the city of Bad Tölz for many years and from 1931 to 1933 also president of the Upper Bavarian district council .

Life

Alfons Stollreither was the son of the Munich post office director Leonhard Stollreither and his wife Elisabeth, née Birzer, and the brother of Eugen Stollreither , director of the University Library in Erlangen. The doctor of law came into office in 1909 with the constitution of the Magistrate of the Kingdom of Bavaria as legally qualified mayor of the city of Bad Tölz. On November 24, 1918, Mayor Stollreither, the pastor of Tölz and school inspector Alois Daisenberger founded a district, citizens and farmers' council , which was chaired by Alfons Stollreither. But he also worked with the workers' council, which was founded by the SPD at the same time , and after the suppression of the Soviet republic sided with the Hofmann government and was a member of the BVP until 1933 . In the interwar period, Alfons Stollreither was considered a capable administrator and important modernizer of the city. From June 1931 until the National Socialists came to power in 1933 he was also President of the Upper Bavarian District Council, which today corresponds to the office of District Council President . Stollreither immediately joined the NSDAP after the seizure of power , so that he can be regarded as a supporter of the Nazi regime during his tenure from 1933 to 1945. At the end of the war, Stollreither tried to prevent the city from being destroyed by fighting. He was deposed by the American troops and died in Bad Tölz in 1954.

In Bad Tölz, due to his behavior at the time of National Socialism , there has been discussions in recent years about changing the name of the Bürgermeister-Stollreither-Strasse. The name was not renamed, instead the street sign was supplemented with the explanation “Alfons Stollreither… as mayor… did well to modernize Bad Tölz. It is controversial because it promoted National Socialism in word and deed. "
