Alfons Thome

Alfons Thome (born June 21, 1915 in Oberlöstern ; † January 28, 2006 ibid) was a German Catholic religious educator .

Life

He was one of nine children of the married couple Johann Thome and Maria, geb. Feid. His younger brother Oskar Thome (1917–2011), supported by him, worked as a missionary in Chile and Ecuador, and later as a pastor in Bliesen .

Alfons Thome entered the mission house of the Steyler missionaries in St. Paul / Wengerohr in 1928 . He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty . During the Second World War he did military service from 1940 and was a prisoner of war until 1949. He was ordained a priest in 1950 and then worked in pastoral care. In 1959 he obtained his doctorate theologiae at the Trier Theological Faculty, a teaching position at the University of Saarbrücken and a lecturer at the Trier University of Education . In 1964 he was appointed professor. From 1967 to 1982 he was full professor for religious education at the Trier Theological Faculty. From 1968 he was also temporarily rector and clergyman advisor at the Catholic Academy in Trier.

Alfons Thome died in 2006 at the age of 90 and was buried in the cemetery in Kostenbach . Prof.-Alfons-Thome-Strasse in his hometown Oberlöstern reminds of him.
