Reinhold Bohlen

Reinhold Bohlen (born February 10, 1946 in Bochum ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman and theologian.

Life

After graduating from high school at Cusanusgymnasium in Wittlich, Bohlen studied philosophy and theology at the Trier Theological Faculty from 1965 and later at the University of Tübingen . He was ordained a priest on February 11, 1973 in Trier . He was a chaplain in Völklingen and then completed an Old Testament doctoral degree in Trier, which he completed in 1971 with the work The Nabot Case: Form, Background and Development of the Old Testament Story 1 Kings 21 . At the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem he studied exegesis and biblical archeology. In 1983 he took over the professorship for Biblical Introduction and Biblical Auxiliary Sciences at the Theological Faculty of Trier . In 1984 he also took on a teaching position for the Old Testament at the Ruhr University in Bochum . At the theological faculty of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg he completed his habilitation with the text Honoring the parents with Ben Sira: Studies on the motivation and interpretation of a basic family ethical value in the early Hellenistic period and received the Venia legendi for the subject of the Old Testament.

In 1991 Bohlen was appointed full professor for Biblical Introduction and Biblical Auxiliary Sciences at the Trier Theological Faculty. He had lectureships at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and during the theological academic year at Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem. Since 1997 he has been the founding director of the Emil Frank Institute at the University of Trier and at the Trier Theological Faculty. In 2003 he was elected rector of the Trier Theological Faculty to succeed Wolfgang Lentzen-Deis . In 2011 he was retired; his successor in the office of rector was Klaus Peter Dannecker .

In 2006 he was appointed resident cathedral capitular at the Hohen Domkirche Trier. From 2011 to 2014 Bohlen was acting director of the library of the Episcopal Seminary in Trier .

Since 2013 he has been teaching the subject Introduction to the Old Testament at the interdiocesan seminary Studienhaus St. Lambert in Lantershofen .

On January 1, 2018, he was appointed rector of the Himmerod Abbey Church . He is also the representative of the Diocese of Trier for the handover of the monastery to the diocese.

Act

Reinhold Bohlen has presented a series of papers on topics from the biblical literary history of Palestine regional studies, the history of Israel and biblical archeology.

Bohlen is committed to numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1995 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Giuseppe Cardinal Caprio and invested in Trier Cathedral on May 20, 1995 by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy, and Peter Heidinger , Lieutenant in Germany. He is an officer of the Papal Lay Order.

In 2010, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class , for his work as the episcopal representative for the Jewish-Christian dialogue in the diocese of Trier and director of the Wittlich Emil Frank Institute .
