Alfred Bertrand
Alfred Alfons Elisabeth Bertrand (born May 26, 1913 in Bilzen , † November 22, 1986 in Sint-Truiden ) was a Belgian politician ( CVP ).
Alfred Bertrand was Minister of Transport in the Théo Lefèvre government from 1961 to 1965 . In 1966 he became Minister of Health under Pierre Harmel and kept this office under Gaston Eyskens until he left the ministerial office in 1971.
He was also a member of the Belgian Parliament . From 1952 to 1979 he was also a member of the parliamentary assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community , the European Parliament . In the European Parliament he was group leader of the EPP from 1975 to 1977 .
In 1986 he was awarded the Robert Schuman Medal .
His daughter Hilde Houben-Bertrand became the first female governor of a Belgian province in Limburg .
