Alfred Herrmann (historian)
Alfred Herrmann (born December 26, 1879 in Hohensalza ; † November 19, 1960 in Berlin ) was a German historian and politician of the DDP .
Life and work
After graduating from high school in Breslau , Herrmann, who was a Roman Catholic, studied history, German studies and philosophy in Breslau and Munich from 1899 to 1903 . During his studies he became a member of the KDStV Winfridia Breslau in the CV in 1899 . In 1903 he received his doctorate in philosophy in Breslau. Three years later he became a private lecturer in modern and middle history at the University of Bonn. In 1913 he was appointed professor of history at the Royal Academy in Poznan . During the First World War he was head of the press department at the deputy commander of the V Corps in Poznan . After the war, Herrmann was chairman of the German People's Council in Poznan. In 1924 he became the editor of the Hamburg tourist paper and in 1927 honorary professor for modern history at the University of Hamburg . In 1933 he resigned from teaching in protest against the Nazi takeover and was only active as a journalist. Until the end of 1934 Herrmann was chief executive of the Reich Association of the German Press .
After the Second World War , Herrmann worked again as an honorary professor in Hamburg from 1947 to 1949 before accepting a position at the Technical University of Berlin . There he retired in 1954. At the beginning of the 1950s he was one of the founding members of the Commission for the History of Parliamentarism and the Political Parties , based in Bonn .

Herrmann was a member of the Weimar National Assembly in 1919/20 .
