Alfred Poell (painter)

Alfred Poell or Pöll (born March 27, 1867 in Oberndorf near Salzburg , † September 8, 1929 in Gmunden ) was an Austrian gynecologist and painter.

Life

Pölls father was from Tyrol originating provincial health inspector Dr. Franz Poell. After graduating from high school, Pöll studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck . He had been a member of the Corps Gothia Innsbruck since 1886 and was reciprocated in 1887 . In 1888/89 he studied for a year at the Munich Art Academy with Wilhelm Velten , a horse and soldier painter from the Munich district . 1893 Dr. med. PhD, Pöll went to the Klagenfurt State Hospital . In Klagenfurt he met his wife Helene. After becoming a gynecologist , he settled in Linz in 1899 . He died at the age of 62.

As an artist he left a remarkable work. He was initially a member of the Upper Austrian Art Association and in 1913 co-founder and chairman of the artists 'association Der Ring as well as co-founder and briefly chairman of MAERZ (artists' association) in Linz in 1921 . From 1913 a member of the Vienna Secession , he was also internationally known. In 1917 he made a studio available to the artist Matthias May in Linz . Pöll created large-scale landscapes with a decorative effect as an expression of confident observation of nature in powerful colors. Only in his last years did still lifes appear. As a member of the Vienna Secession artists' association, he exhibited there regularly from 1912. In 1928 he was represented at the large collective exhibition in the Volksgarten Salon in Linz with 136 works.
