Ulrich Völkel

Ulrich Völkel (born October 30, 1940 in Plauen , Vogtland ) is a German writer .

Life

Ulrich Völkel passed his school-leaving examination in 1959 and then did his military service in the National People's Army . From 1961 he worked as a stage worker and dramaturgy assistant at the theater in Putbus on Rügen . In 1962 he became cultural advisor for the city of Saßnitz , and from 1962 he worked in the cultural work of the city of Schwerin . From 1963 to 1965 he studied at the Leipzig "Literature Institute Johannes R. Becher" , which he graduated with the degree of a graduate philosopher. After that he was an artistic assistant atSchwerin State Theater and the Rostock Volkstheater . He has been a freelance writer since 1975 . From 1988 he lived in Arnstadt , Thuringia , where he founded Rhinoverlag in 1993, which he managed until 2006. He has been based in Weimar since 2001 . He has 2 children.

Ulrich Völkel is the author of novels , stories , poems and plays . He also publishes works of fiction and non-fiction , mostly on regional topics, and works as a lecturer for various publishers .

Ulrich Völkel was a member of the GDR Writers' Association from 1968 to 1989 . In 1968 he received the Fritz Reuter Art Prize of the Schwerin district , in 1969 the main prize in the playwright competition of the Ministry of Culture of the GDR and in 1979 the Theodor Körner Prize .
