Alfred Völkel

Alfred Völkel (born November 23, 1927 in Langenbach , Upper Franconia ; † November 7, 2005 in Greece ) was an Upper Franconian teacher and dialect poet.

Life

The son of a woodworker and a cigar-maker from Langenbach inherited the joy of storytelling and singing from his mother, who came from a farm in Mühlleithen . Völkel was a Franconian youth boxing champion . After completing his studies, he was a secondary school teacher for German, English, history and Protestant religious teaching and headed the secondary school in Helmbrechts from 1972 to 1990 . In addition, the Social Democrat was a member of the Naila district council when Naila was still a district town , and later a member of the Hof district council . Völkel died on November 7, 2005 in Greece as a result of a traffic accident.

Services

Völkel was the first in Germany to translate a comprehension exercise book (an exercise book for understanding the English language) into German.

He also collected the folk music of the Franconian Forest . He made this known along with his poems in many broadcasts on Bavarian Radio , where he recorded several song titles with his wife Leni and occasionally with his daughter.

Poetry

Völkel translated, among other things, Wilhelm Busch'sMax and Moritz ” into the Langenbach dialect. He became known through his short poems:

Harmony
duel Mei Vadder haod wood made.
The Mudder haod dermejd eigeschierd
Mei Mudder haod cigars made. The
Vadder haodsa raachd
(My father made wood.
The mother used it.
My mother made cigars.
The father smoked them.)
