Algernon Maudslay , CBE (born January 10, 1873 in Tetbury , † March 2, 1948 in Winchester ) was a British sailor .

successes

Algernon Maudslay took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris , where he competed in three competitions as the skipper of the Scotia . In the joint race, the Scotia was the first boat to cross the finish line two minutes before the Cinderella from Germany, with which Maudslay, along with his crew members John Gretton , Linton Hope and ship owner Lorne Currie, became Olympic champions . In the boat class 0.5 to 1 ton , they achieved another Olympic victory in the first race, while they missed another podium finish in the second race, finishing fourth.

Maudsley attended private schools and was a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club , the Royal London Yacht Club and the Royal Yacht Squadron . From 1927 until his death he was Treasurer of the Royal Yachting Association . He dedicated a large part of his life to his commitment to the British Red Cross and the International Red Cross , as well as other aid organizations. In 1919 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his services as head of the Belgian War Refugees Committee . In October 1927 he was also appointed Grand Officer of the Belgian Crown Order.
