"I think they should maybe change their name - if they were All Lives Matter, or Innocent Lives Matter. ")

In 2016, presidential candidate (and later president) Donald Trump claimed that Black Lives Matter was a divisive and racist term.

Demonstrations

In June 2020 a demonstration of neo-Nazis took place in Karlsruhe under the motto "All Lives Matter", which was organized by the former NPD activist Jonathan Stumpf. 50 people took part in the demonstration.

In the small town of Bethel, Ohio , participants in a Black Lives Matter demonstration were attacked by armed counter-demonstrators from the All Lives Matter movement.

In the state of Oregon there was a demonstration by All Lives Matter, who protested against the raising of a Black Lives Matter flag at a town hall. Eyewitnesses reported that a participant in the All Lives Matter demonstration aimed a gun at counter-demonstrators.

criticism

David Theo Goldberg , Director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute at the University of California , wrote in 2015: “All Lives Matter” is a matter of course, close to a cliché. The insistence on “Black Lives Matter” is necessary because in the USA, in contrast to “All Lives Matter”, black lives are too often viewed as unimportant. It is therefore necessary to shout “Black Lives Matter” because society continues to provide evidence that “All Lives Matter” does not apply to many black people.

reception

Fabian Wolff ( Die Zeit ) sees All Lives Matter as a defiant reaction to an alleged one-sidedness of the slogan Black Lives Matter.
