Allan W. Eckert

Allan W. Eckert (born January 30, 1931 in Buffalo , New York , † July 7, 2011 in Corona , California ) was an American writer , who through his books for children and young people and his novels Blue Jacket and Tecumseh! got known.

Life

After attending school, Eckert joined the US Air Force and did four years of military service there . After completing his active service, he began studying at the University of Dayton and then at Ohio State University .

In 1971 Eckert's adventure novel about a boy and a badger, Incident At Hawk's Hill, a classic animal story.

Over the course of his writing career, he has written forty books such as Blue Jacket , which have been translated into 13 languages , for which he was nominated seven times for the Pulitzer Prize for Novels . He has also written over 150 articles, essays and short stories as well as scripts for numerous films .

With the 1993 novel A Sorrow in Our Heart. The Life of Tecumseh he wrote a biographical description of the life of Tecumseh and also described other characters such as his older sister Tecumapease .

Most recently, he worked on the novel The Infinite Dream , which was due to appear as part of The Winning America series of novels in late summer 2011. Another already finished book, The Ultimate Treasure, is due to be published in 2012.

1985 awarded him Bowling Green State University an Honorary Doctorate ( Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters ), as well as 1998, the Wright State University . He was also a lifetime member and intermittent trustee of the Dayton Natural History Museum .
