The Almagellerhorn (also Almagellhorn , 3327  m above sea level ) is a summit of the Weissmies group in the Valais Alps . The hardly glaciated mountain is located on the east side of the Saas Valley , less than five kilometers south of the Weissmies and is the dominant mountain above Saas Almagell . To the north of the summit lies the Almagellertal , south of the Furggtälli . whose valley head is the Antronapass .

The shapely pyramid is an interesting sight, especially from Saas Fee , because from there, from a suitable perspective, the ridges of the mountain and the valley flanks of the Saas Valley almost form a diamond . The study Zuckmayer which he used after 1958 and in which he his autobiography wrote, offered this view of the Almagellerhorn. So that this view could not be obstructed by new buildings, he bought a piece of land in front of the house.

Climbs

In 2011, a marked route was laid out from the Heidbodme viewpoint (2346 m) in the southwest of the summit, which can be reached by chairlift . This initially leads together with the Höhenweg to the Antronapass in an easterly direction. After about 45 minutes, you branch off from this in a north-westerly direction and a little later you reach the so-called Panormaplatz , which is the starting point of a via ferrata - like route at the beginning of the south-west ridge of the Almagellerhorn. About 120 meters of altitude are overcome over this insured, partially exposed section, then the route leads on or near the southwest ridge over block terrain and has climbing difficulties in the I degree of difficulty, one point is rated II-. It takes about three hours to get to the summit from Heidbodme.

Alternatively, the mountain can be climbed in around 4½ hours from Saas Almagell via the west-north-west ridge. This ridge can also be reached from the north from the Almagelleralp. The southeast ridge from the Kanziljoch ( 3189  m ) offers another possibility of ascent . The yoke can be reached either through the Furggtälli or from the north from the Almagellertal, whereby the small Wysstal glacier has to be crossed. This ascent is classified as not very difficult ( WS ), the ascent over the west-northwest ridge as easy ( L ).
