Almoster is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) Alvaiázere , in central Portugal . It has a population of 674 (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1220 in the surveys of King D.Afonso II , but it is older. So its name is probably of Arabic origin. In connection with the Napoleonic invasions , the place suffered severe destruction in 1810 by the French invading army under General Masséna .

Attractions

Among the monuments of the municipality include the watermill Moinho de Água no Olho do Tordo and some religious buildings , including the ruins of the parish church from the 17th century, fell into disrepair since the destruction by French troops 1810th

The Fonte da Escuza fountain is also worth seeing .
