Aloe ambrensis is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet ambrensis refers to the occurrence of the species on Cap d'Ambre in Madagascar.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe ambrensis grows without a trunk and individually. The eleven to fifteen widely spread, lanceolate-pointed leaves form loose rosettes . The green or often reddish tinged leaf blade is 70 centimeters long and 3.5 to 6 centimeters wide. The stiff, white teeth on the leaf margin are 1.5 millimeters long and 15 to 20 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence is simple or consists of one branch. It reaches a length of 30 to 40 centimeters. The loose, cylindrical grapes are 12 to 20 centimeters long and consist of 40 to 50 flowers. The paper bracts are 5 millimeters long. The cylindrical, red flowers are on 5 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 30 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 5 millimeters. Above this they are narrowed to 3 millimeters and finally widened to the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 3 to 4 millimeters. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

The fruits are berries with a diameter of 20 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe ambrensis is only found on the Cap d'Ambre in Madagascar in forests between basalt and limestone blocks under trees.
