Aloe bella is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet bella comes from Latin and means 'beautiful'.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe bella grows stemless or short stem-forming, sprouts and forms dense groups. The shoots are prostrate. The deltoid, pointed and rather sickle-shaped leaves form rosettes . The pinkish-brown leaf blade is up to 50 inches long and 11 inches wide. The red teeth on the red, cartilaginous leaf margin are 2 millimeters long and about 20 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence consists of up to five branches and reaches a length of up to 100 centimeters. The dense, conical to almost heady grapes are 6 to 11 centimeters long. The deltoid-pointed bracts have a length of 8 to 10 millimeters and are 4 millimeters wide. The bright flowers , which turn green towards the mouth, are on 6 to 7 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 27 millimeters long and rounded at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 8 to 9 millimeters. They are slightly narrowed to the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 7 to 9 millimeters. The stamens and the pen stand out 3 to 6 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe bella is widespread in Somalia on stony coastal plains and limestone plateaus at heights of around 30 meters.

The first description by Gordon Douglas Rowley was published in 1974. Aloe pulchra Lavranos (1973, nom. Illeg. ICBN -Article 53.1) is a synonym .
