description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe confusa grows trunk-forming, branches out predominantly from the base and forms dense, interwoven masses with a diameter of up to 4 meters. The prostrate or hanging trunks reach a length of up to 1 meter and a diameter of 1.8 centimeters. The lanceolate tapering, mostly sickle-shaped leaves are scattered along the trunks on 20 to 30 centimeters. The gray-green leaf blade is up to 30 centimeters long and 3 to 4 centimeters wide. On the underside of the leaf there are usually a few, small, whitish spots near the base. The leaf surface is smooth. The firm, white teeth on the narrow, white, cartilaginous leaf margin are 1 to 2 millimeters long and about 10 to 15 millimeters apart. The leaf sheaths, which are usually green striped, are about 15 millimeters long and occasionally spotted. The leaf sap is yellow and quickly turns deep purple when exposed to air.

Inflorescences and flowers

The crooked inflorescence is simple or consists of two to three branches. It reaches a length of about 45 centimeters. The fairly dense, cylindrically long, pointed, upright grapes are 10 to 20 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide. The deltoid long pointed bracts have a length of 4 to 7 millimeters and are 2 to 3 millimeters wide. The yellow, occasionally red flowers are on 12 to 15 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are about 25 to 30 millimeters long and briefly narrowed at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of about 6 millimeters. Above that, they are slightly narrowed and finally slightly expanded towards the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 11 millimeters. The stamens and the style stick out about 3 to 4 millimeters from the flower.
