Aloe hardyi is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet hardyi honors David Spencer Hardy (1931–1998), horticulturist and former curator of the Pretoria Botanical Garden.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe hardyi grows trunk-forming and branching with hanging shoots . The 12 to 20 pendulous, lanceolate leaves form rosettes . Your glaucoma blue-green leaf blade is 40 to 70 centimeters long and 5 to 8 centimeters wide. The small teeth on the edge of the leaf are scattered.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence is 50 to 70 centimeters long. The rather dense grapes are conical to almost head-shaped. The obovate-pointed bracts have a length of 14 to 17 millimeters and are 10 to 15 millimeters wide. The pink to red flowers are on 15 to 30 millimeter long peduncles . They are 25 to 35 millimeters long and rounded at their base. Above the ovary are slightly narrowed and then widened towards its mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the pen stand out 3 to 5 millimeters from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe hardyi is found on cliffs in the South African province of Mpumalanga .
