Between 1981 and 1987 he worked as an assistant doctor in Düsseldorf, Cologne , Neuss and San Francisco , and in 1987 his specialist training in orthopedics , sports medicine , physical therapy and sonography ended . After two years as a senior physician in orthopedics at the Johanna Etienne Hospital in Neuss (1987 to 1989), Teuber opened a practice for sports medicine in Meerbusch in 1989 .

As a doctor, Teuber looked after numerous athletes and teams from the top sports sector: for years he was a ring doctor for professional boxing matches, took care of boxers like Henry Maske , Axel Schulz and Sven Ottke medically, in the 1990s he was team doctor for the football team of Fortuna Düsseldorf , then Borussia Mönchengladbach , from 2006 to 2015 again from Fortuna Düsseldorf. For 13 years he looked after the American football team Rhein Fire , was also a doctor of the TuS 95 Dragons Düsseldorf (rugby), the second division basketball team Düsseldorf Magics , the Bundesliga tennis team Rochusclub Düsseldorf and Blau-Weiß Neuss , the hockey team Schwarz-Weiß Neuss and ab 1989 of the ice hockey team Düsseldorfer EG . Teuber was also the medical director of NFL Europe and worked as a doctor at the ATP tennis tournament in Düsseldorf .

Teuber published numerous articles in sports medicine journals as well as regular columns on sports medicine topics in the Handelsblatt and the Rheinische Post . He advised the National Olympic Committee of China on sports medicine issues and was visiting professor at Qingdao University Hospital .

From 1994 Teuber was chairman of the Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BDB). Teuber came under pressure after traces of the forbidden stimulant ephedrine were found in a doping test of Graciano Rocchigiani , which the boxer had given after the fight against Dariusz Michalczewski in August 1996 , Teuber found the result of the A test but neither Rocchigiani, his board colleague reported in the BDB to the boxing association WBO . Teuber rejected the allegation of cover-up and emphasized that he had forwarded the matter to the WBO, but that he had not received any answers to his inquiries. Der Spiegel reported in early September 1997 that Teuber had written "backdated letters to the WBO" to prove "how much he tried to clarify," the article said. Teuber had "not denied the correctness of these allegations in his written statement", the BDB vice-presidents said in their application to have Teuber voted out of office as president of the Association of German Professional Boxers at the general meeting in November 1997. The two most influential German boxing promoters at the time, Klaus-Peter Kohl and Wilfried Sauerland , had also spoken out in favor of replacing Teuber. Teuber finally announced his retirement as president at the general meeting of the BDB in November 1997.
