Alois Freiherr von Pražák (born February 21, 1820 in Hungarian-Hradisch in Moravia , † January 30, 1901 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician.

Life

Pražák studied law in Olomouc , was elected to the Moravian Landtag and the Reichstag by his hometown in 1848, and there belonged to the party of the Slavic right. In 1849 he settled as a lawyer in Brno and only re-entered political life after the February patent in 1861, when he was elected to the Moravian Landtag and (until 1863) to the Imperial Council; in the first he was the leader of the Czech party. Since 1874 a member of the Reichsrat again, he became head of the moderate Czechs. On August 15, 1879, he was appointed Minister without Portfolio ("Czech Compatriot Minister") in the Taaffe Ministry and on January 14, 1881, he also took over the Ministry of Justice. Through his language ordinances (1881 and 1886), he promoted the introduction of Czech as a court language and in the land registers. On October 11, 1888, he was replaced as Minister of Justice by Count Schönborn , but remained in the cabinet as a minister without a portfolio until August 4, 1892. He was then appointed a lifelong member of the manor .
