Aloys Rump (born April 20, 1949 in Boppard ) is a German Art Informel painter , object and installation artist.

Life

Aloys Rump grew up in Boppard, where he graduated from today's Kant-Gymnasium . In 1970 he began his art studies at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and studied with Peter Brüning and Gerhard Richter until 1974 . From 1974 to 1978 he continued his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Fred Thieler . After completing his studies, he returned to Boppard, where he now lives and works with his wife Tina Rump.

In 2006 he received a grant from the then Federal President Horst Köhler .

The work

Aloys Rump is often referred to as a literary painter when he sensitively transforms poetry into painting. He has translated poems by Paul Celan ( From Vorgewußt bis Jetzt ), thoughts of Paul Claudel ( Cent Phrases pour éventails ) and poems by the English poet Dylan Thomas ( Wind-cast light ) into pictures.

With the cycle “Dust of the Towers”, which recalls the terrorist attack of September 11th, Rump confronts the horrors and problems of the present as well as the horror of the past with the grave stelae On Death and Black Milk .

The variety of materials is important for Rump's work: wooden panels are coated, filled and sanded; Steles are made of wood, fabric and paint; Slate and marble dust are used as design elements. Rump has created the series from great heights from marble and slate flour. These materials are layered and fixed in such a way that a relief structure is created that evokes memories of landscapes.
