Alsace d'abord ( German "Alsace first" ) is a regionalist party in the political spectrum of the right in Alsace .
history
In 1989 Robert Spieler founded the Alsace d'abord and became its party leader. Up to this year he was a party member of the French Front National (FN) , from which he resigned because of its anti-European positions.
The party won around 6% and 2 seats in the 1992 elections and 5.9% and 9 seats in 1998. In 2004 Alsace d'abord achieved its best result so far with 9.42% of the vote, but because of the new electoral procedure it did not make it into the second ballot, which is only open to parties with over 10%.
Alsace d'abord maintains contacts with parties such as the Vlaams Belang in Belgium or the Italian Lega Nord .
The party repeatedly hit the headlines with its advertising campaigns . For example, a gagged woman in traditional Alsatian costume was depicted on an election poster .
Robert Spieler was chairman of the party until 2008, which he then left to build the new collective movement Nouvelle Droite populaire . His successor was co-founder Jacques Cordonnier , who announced that he would move closer to the “fundamental and regionalist values of the party”. Since then, the party has moved closer to the Identitarian Movement and became a member of the Bloc Identitaire at its convention in Orange in November 2009 .
Party platform
The party's program is rather bourgeois-conservative, but because of its sharp tones in the areas of security and immigration it is assigned to right-wing populism or right-wing extremism . Above all, it emphasizes the value of identity , which, unlike the FN, is not only defined as national, but threefold as regional (Alsatian), national and European. Alsace d'abord explains this in its charter as follows:
“Alsatian by origin or admission, we declare our attachment to the Alsatian, French and European identity of our region. This identity is based on our double culture, French and Alemannic. Our identity is threatened by cultural standardization, the forgetting of our roots and the perversion of our values. It is also threatened by non-European immigration. "
«Alsaciens d'origine ou d'adoption, nous affirmons notre attachement à l'identité alsacienne, française et européenne de notre région. »::« Cette identité se fonde sur notre double culture, française et alémanique. Notre identité est menacée par l'uniformisation culturelle, l'oubli de nos racines et la perversion de nos valeurs. Elle est also menacée par l'immigration non européenne. »
Among other things, this is intended to promote the promotion of bilingualism ( German and French ) as well as financial and fiscal autonomy for Alsace and defend it against a presumed threat from non-European immigration and the spread of Islam (" Islamization "), especially radical Islamism. Due to the history of Alsace, the party program supports a deepened European Union , but without Turkey .
