The Altbach is a right-hand tributary of the Glatt in the Swiss canton of Zurich , which drains part of the Zurich lowlands .

course

Spring runs

The Altbach is fed by various sources in the vicinity of Nürensdorf and Lindau . Depending on the map, one or the other of the source arms is called Altbach, but there are also other names for some of these streams or sections.

Birchwilerbach

The highest source of the right main arm occurs near the Grunenenwald on the border between the communities of Nürensdorf and Brütten at 587 m above sea level. M. to the surface. The brook then flows in a south-easterly direction through its wooded ravine, initially past the Breite substation and continues along the north-west flank of the Münchmühleberg to include the Haslibach, the Möslibach, the Erspelbach and the Oberwilerbach ; Below the former mill at Birchwil , the Schürbach from the Hintermülberg joins from the left. It continues along the Obethölzli into the Bärwiesen, where it joins at the former grinding mill with the one originally from the nearby Unterwies, since its drainage via a canal directly from the Tobelbach, which rises above Birchwil, and immediately afterwards crosses the border to Bassersdorf. After the creek has been taken up from the wet meadow on the left, the Altbach now turns to the south-west and leads close to the steep slope of the Homberg into the Wisental, where it joins the arm leading up to the Nürensdorf below the upper mill.

Dorfbach

The Hitzenbach, which rises from the Riet south of the Breite, joins at Hakab, about 500 meters south of its source, with the Honaspgraben, which comes from Hohenasp half a kilometer to the east and which today emerges from the forest at the covered Honaspgraben, then turns west and flows through it a wooded ravine past the Neubruch and further into the center of Nürensdorf ; a reservoir pond northwest of the village, fed by a short canal branching off to the right, was removed before 1931, and the area was built over in 2006. At the sawmill, the Riedbach or Lindauerbach flowing from the stream meadows near Lindau flows from the east ; the elongated weier that was laid out there in the late 19th century no longer exists. A little further to the west, the brook crosses the border to Bassersdorf and descends to the Schafmetzg south of the Homberg, then turns to the northwest through the Wisental to the Upper Mill and then joins the Birchwilerbach.

Bassersdorf

When the Alte Winterthurerstrasse branches off into Baltenswilerstrasse and Klotenerstrasse, the Altbach also splits into the Dorfbach , which was laid out in the late Middle Ages and runs westwards, and the Auenbach , which flows around the village in an arc that initially follows the old Zürichstrasse and extends far to the south formerly swampy area around the Grindel reunited with the Dorfbach and shortly thereafter also includes the now covered Bachtobelbach.

Balls

The Bedenseebach, which is also covered, flows into Kloten ; In front of the airport motorway, the Altbach is again divided into an underground canal built in the 1970s, which comes to the surface again in Stierwisen below the Waffenplatz and joins the Ruebisbach to the Brunnbach 200 meters further , and which is also largely covered today, for example the mouth section following the old stream bed into the Glattwiesen.
