Old Evangelical Church Wattenscheid
The Old Evangelical Church is a listed church building in Wattenscheid , a district of Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The simple, baroque hall made of broken stone with corner blocks was built with interruptions from 1686 to 1763. The choir closes on five sides . An octagonal roof turret was added to the building. The church was badly damaged in World War II and restored by 1950. On the west side there are teeth for a planned tower . The portal and the arched windows in the nave were renewed in 1956/57. In 1968 a sacristy was built. Inside, a pointed barrel vault rests on wooden pillars. The church was extensively renovated in 2015.
Furnishing
- The lime wood altarpiece with winding columns and ornamental cheeks dates from around 1660/70.
- Instead of the altar sheet from 1694, a slightly older pulpit was built in and a new sound cover was added to make a pulpit altar.
- The wooden organ front was made by Johann Wey around 1718. The fitted organ was made by Detlef Kleuker in 1964 . It was also renovated in 2015 by Orgelbau Schulte .
- The gallery was built in the second half of the 18th century.
- The two grave slabs are from the 18th century.
