history

Erchenbert von Stirn / Altendorf

The von Altendorf family was first mentioned in a document in 1118. This year Erchenbert von Stirn / Altendorf appeared as a witness at the margravial donation of the Reichenbach estate to the Reichenbach monastery .

His position in the row of witnesses before the Diepolding ministerials clearly identifies him as a nobleman. His two sons, Heinrich II. And Friedrich, shared the inheritance after the death of their father around 1155. Heinrich II received Altendorf , Friedrich the Lower Bavarian possessions of the family, including shares in the Leonberg rule . The branch of the noble family founded by Frederick died out in the next generation and its property fell to Heinrich II and his descendants.

Heinrich II of Altendorf

Heinrich II. Von Altendorf ( still named Heinrich I by Heinz Dopsch ) was able to gain control of Niederviehbach near Landshut through his marriage to Hildegard von Moosbach, the widow of Hartwich von Hagenaus . After the death of his first wife Hildegard, Heinrich II married Berta, one of the heir to Count Gebhard von Sulzbach . This marriage brought him the Lordship of Schwarzenburg and Neustadt an der Waldnaab . From 1180 Heinrich II. Von Altendorf was Vogt of St. Emmeram in Regensburg . He was first mentioned in 1183 with the title Comes (= Count ). The area from Altendorf to Stratsried along the Schwarzach was called the "Grafschaft an der Schwarzach".

When Heinrich II died in 1194, his two sons Heinrich IV and Bernger (also: Berengar) I were still minors. As a result, the family lost the bailiwick of St. Emmeram.

Heinrich IV of Altendorf

On March 8, 1232, Heinrich IV pledged the rule of Neustadt an der Waldnaab for 1000 Regensburg marks to his cousin Heinrich I von Ortenburg . He could not release the pledge later. The Schwarzenburg dominion was also sold before 1240. In the sixties of the 13th century, Heinrich's son Wolfgang sold the properties around Altendorf and the county on the Schwarzach to the Wittelsbach family.

Bernger I.

Bernger I was enfeoffed by Duke Ludwig I with Leonberg , Tann and Gangkofen and from then on called himself after Leonberg . In 1208 he also received the county of Isar and Vils after the death of the last Count of Frontenhausen. In the twenties of the 14th century the family von Stirn-Altendorf-Leonberg died with Wernhard III. and Henry VII. According to the inheritance contract, their possessions came to the Bavarian dukes Heinrich and Otto as well as to the Counts of Hals , Alram and Albrecht .

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Counts of Altendorf is unknown. A remnant has been preserved in the lower part of the coat of arms of Altendorf . The four golden hills shown there come from the coat of arms of the Counts of Leonberg , who were the successors of the Counts of Altendorf. Count Bernger von Altendorf was enfeoffed with Leonberg by Duke Ludwig I and named himself from then on after Leonberg.
