history
Surrounded by the settlements of Langeneisine, Werdenessen, Edelersen, Guntersen, Valehusen and Schonloh, which have since disappeared, (Alten-) Heerse already existed in the 9th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1065 by Heinrich IV. As Altinherise. In 868, the then Paderborn Bishop Liuthard and his sister Walburga founded the noble Heerse Abbey in the district of Herisi (in territorio villae, quae Herisi nuncupatur) . As a so-called monastery village , Altenheerse remained dependent on this monastery until its dissolution. The dependency referred to the lands, the tithe , the forests, meadows, pastures, bodies of water, houses, buildings, cattle, servants and all movable and immovable property. The residents of Altenheerse not only had to pay their tithes, they were also required to perform manual and tension service to the monastery .
Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Altenheerse was an independent municipality and belonged to the former Warburg district, Dringenberg-Gehrden . On January 1, 1975, when the Sauerland / Paderborn law came into force , Altenheerse became one of the 13 districts of Willebadessen , which has been part of the current Höxter district since the same date .
