Altenhof is a district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . Until the municipality reform , which came into force on July 1, 1972, Altenhof belonged to the municipality of Mühlen. The district is located in the north of the city, north of the Lohgraben . The following streets belong to it: Chemnitzer Strasse, Dresdner Strasse, Kohlbrunnermühlstrasse, Leipziger Strasse, Martin-Schrettinger-Strasse, Meißener Strasse, Plauener Strasse, Sachsenstrasse and Zwickauer Strasse.

The name Altenhof or Altmühle is derived from a homestead that is located on the Lohgraben between Kohlenbrunnermühle and Koppenmühle. Already in the 11th century there was probably a place to stay, as the trade routes from Nuremberg , Regensburg , Landshut and Pilsen crossed at the so-called Bernfurt, which ran through marshy terrain .

Today's Altenhof district emerged as a new housing estate in the 1970s and 1980s.

Culture and sights

The Schwarzachaue, located on the western edge of the district, was redesigned into a park as part of the State Garden Show in 1998. There is a Kneipp basin in the Schwarzach, replicas of a Celtic sundial and the gold cone from Buch . The actual site of the state horticultural show, today's LGS Park, adjoins in the southwest.

Transport and infrastructure

In Altenhof there is a small shopping center with shops for daily needs, as well as a number of medical practices and service offices.

The district is connected to the long-distance road network around Neumarkt via Amberger Straße and Berliner Ring. The bus lines 563 and 573 connect Altenhof with the city center and the train station .
