history

The old village chapel of Stauf

On the Staufer Berg are the remains of the Stauf castle stable , which belonged to the Stauff von Stauffenberg family, but about whom little is known. A Hans Staff von Stauffenberg is an assessor at the Hirschberg Regional Court in 1424 , followed by a Dietrich von Stauffenberg in 1427.

The place itself developed from around 1100, in 1269 a "Steuffleyn" is mentioned among the places belonging to the Berngau office . In 1326 "Steufflein" is described as a village with 4 hubs and a fief. In the summer of 1633, during the Thirty Years' War , a 600-man infantry regiment of the Austrian general Ernesto Montecuccoli was staying near Stauf, and they fought with Swedish troops on June 27, 1633. When the Swedes invaded Neumarkt shortly afterwards after heavy shelling, the surrounding towns were looted, including Stauf.

For the construction of the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal , the community of Stauf ceded the Rosenweiher in 1845 and received 700 guilders, with which a chapel was built in 1852.

In World War II Stauf was largely spared from destruction. During the battle for Neumarkt in April 1945, an SS unit set up a fire position on the Staufer Berg, which was abandoned when the American troops approached.

The municipality of Stauf was dissolved during the municipal reform that came into force on July 1, 1972. Stauf came to the new large district town of Neumarkt, the district of Buchberg fell to the municipality of Sengenthal .

The previously independent parish of Stauf was incorporated into the parish of Woffenbach in 1976 . In 1979 the foundation stone was laid for the new St. Walburga Church, which was completed in 1980.

In 1980 the sports club (SV) Stauf was founded, which initially played in Buchberger Straße and later received a sports facility at the Staufer Weiher.

Transport and infrastructure

State road 2238, which connects Neumarkt with Freystadt and the federal highway 9 , ran through Stauf until 1993. Today it is connected to the Neumarkt city bypass via a bypass road, which has significantly reduced road traffic in Stauf. The bus 569 connects Stauf with the city center and the railway station .

Stauf has little infrastructure. Shops for daily needs, doctors, kindergartens and schools are located in Neumarkt itself or in the neighboring district of Woffenbach. The Stauf-Süd industrial park has been located south of Stauf since 1999 , and various companies have settled there.
