The Altona road is a high traffic main road through the Tiergarten in Berlin districts Hansa district and Tiergarten . It runs as a central street between the Großer Stern and the Hansabrücke .

history

Altonaer Strasse was laid out by the Berlin-Hamburg real estate company on Schöneberger Wiesen (which later became the Hansaviertel). Like Hansa, the name Altona refers to Hamburg ; according to the real estate company. The first road system, however, was limited to the area from the Hansabrücke to the confluence with the Brückenallee . In 1935, the part of the bridge avenue leading to the Großer Stern was also renamed Altonaer Straße. As part of the Interbau in 1957, some central buildings were erected here.

In a north-westerly direction, Altonaer Strasse is crossed by the tram route behind Hansaplatz .
