Altus AVA is a wine-growing region in the US state of Arkansas recognized since May 30, 1984 by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives .

location

The vineyards are spread over the administrative district of Franklin County in northwest Arkansas, near the eponymous city of Altus . The Altus Designation of Origin is an integral part of the parent Arkansas Mountain AVA , which in turn is part of the state-spanning Ozark Mountain AVA .

The Altus AVA wine-growing region is bordered by the Arkansas River in the south and the Boston Mountains in the north . The very acidic soil is loamy and interspersed with pebbles.

Currently, 5 wineries operate commercial viticulture under this designation of origin and bottle almost 3.8 million liters of wine every year .
