The vineyards are distributed over the north-west of Arkansas, the south of Missouri and the north-east of Oklahoma . As the sixth largest American Viticultural Area in the United States, 1,424,493 hectares were defined as the Ozark Mountain AVA. In order to take into account the idea of the terroir, five smaller sub-regions have been defined so far (as of 2008).
