Hermann AVA is a wine-growing region in the US state of Missouri that has been recognized by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives since August 18, 1983 .

The vineyards are distributed over the administrative unit Gasconade County . The wine-growing region with the status of an American Viticultural Area is an enclave within the superordinate Denomination of Origin Ozark Mountain AVA . The area is located south of the Missouri River near the eponymous city of Hermann , halfway between the cities of St. Louis and Jefferson City . 7 wineries currently use the designation of origin to sell their products.

The area is near the Missouri River floodplains . The deposited alluvial soil can be up to 9 m deep. The climatic conditions are often compared with those of Germany. The selection of grape varieties is not limited to autochthonous grape varieties, but also includes varieties from the families Vitis vinifera , Vitis labrusca and French hybrid grapes .
