The Alupilot 17M class is a series of fast pilot boats that has been in service in Norway since 2008 and in Schleswig-Holstein since 2010 . The class was designed and built by the Swedish Dockstavarvet .
The class is a further development of pilot boats that have been in service since 1996. The hull is made of aluminum and specially designed for the harsh conditions on the Norwegian west coast. As a special feature, the boats have heating for the upper deck and the railing to keep them free of ice at temperatures below freezing point . The first boat of this class was delivered to the Fedje pilot station in May 2008 .
Germany
As a replacement for the pilot boats built by Fjellstrand Aluminum Yachts in the 1980s, six Alupilot 17M-ver.2 boats were commissioned from Dockstavarvet by the Mechanical Engineering Department . They are built as a self -righting device and equipped with a platform for man-over-board rescue at the stern . The boats entered service between December 2010 and December 2011 with the names of their predecessors.
