Alvin Robert Lamar Jones III (born September 9, 1978 in Luxemburg , Luxemburg ) is a former American- Luxemburgish basketball player .

The son of Josiane, a Luxembourgish teacher, and the American basketball player Alvin Jones Jr. moved with his parents and sister to the United States in 1981 and was coached by his father in 1997 for the state high school championship . His father resigned as a coach when he won the championship and henceforth focused on his career as a school psychologist.

From 1997 to 2001, Alvin Jones III attended the Georgia Institute of Technology . He came in 124 games on 1312 points and 1075 rebounds. In the blocked shots category , which has only been documented in college basketball since 1985, he set a record with 425 and is still in the top 15 today (as of 2017). Jones was named a senior on the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-ACC First Team in his senior year .

He was selected in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft in a total of 56th place by the Philadelphia 76ers . In the 2001/02 NBA season he completed 23 games in the regular season , scoring 26 points, 36 rebounds, 3 assists and 9 blocks in 124 minutes. In two postseason games, he rebounded in five minutes.

After his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he played in Europe, including briefly with RheinEnergie Cologne in the basketball league . He played for the Luxembourg national team in qualifying for the EuroBasket in 2005 and 2007 .
