Ama Degbeon (born December 16, 1995 in Berlin ) is a German national basketball player . The 1.84 m tall player is used as a power forward and center .
career
In 2011, the then U16 and A national coach Alexandra Maerz recognized Ama Degbeon's talent and convinced the USC Heidelberg player to move to the part-time basketball boarding school (BTI) in Grünberg (Hesse) . Subsequently, Ama Degbeon was used in the WNBL team Mittelhessen (a joint U17 Bundesliga team of the Hessian cooperation partners TSV Grünberg and BC Marburg ) and later also in the second division team of the Bender Baskets Grünberg . Ama Degbeon began her international playing career in the U16 selection, followed by appointments to the U18 and U20 selection teams of the DBB .
At the age of 17, she played her first international match on May 11, 2013 and celebrated a successful debut with six points against Luxembourg . Consequently, it was used in the same year in the qualifying games for the European Championship. In the 2013/2014 season, she was promoted to the highest German league. Ama Degbeon played with a double license at both the second division TSV Grünberg and the first division BC Marburg. The young player quickly became a regular in Marburg.
In 2014 Ama Degbeon received a scholarship from Florida State University in Tallahassee . She studied (major: biology) and played at college in the United States until 2018. Degbeon recorded the best statistics of her university time in the USA in her senior season 2017/18, when she was in the starting line- up 32 times in 33 appearances and averaged 6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
For the 2017/18 season she moved to the Swedish first division club A3 Basket Umeå, with whom she won the championship title in spring 2019. In August 2019 she became German champion in the basketball game "3-on-3" . In the run-up to the 2019/20 season, she accepted an offer from the Polish club AZS UMCS Lublin.
