Ambra is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Bucine in the province of Arezzo , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 7 km south of the main town Bucine, about 22 km southwest of the provincial capital Arezzo and about 50 km southeast of the regional capital Florence . It is the third largest town in the municipality after the main town of Bucine and the district of Levane. Ambra is located on the river of the same name in the area of Chianti Aretino and in the Ambratal (Val d'Ambra, also Valdambra).

The place itself is divided into five Rioni :

  • Il Castello
  • La Piazza
  • Il Poggio
  • Il Pozzo
  • Il Senese

history

The place was settled for the first time probably in Roman times . In the 12th century, the Ubertini family ruled here , who built the castle, now called Castelvecchio . The family, which later came under the Tarlati family , remained under the control of the Tarlati or the bishops of Arezzo until the 14th century. In 1365 the Ubertini submitted to the Fiorentines, who a year later took control of the entire Ambratal. The place came through the regional reform Riforma Leopoldina (1772–1774) of Leopold II as a district to Bucine.
