The American Collegiate Invitational was an invitation tournament in US college tennis that took place from 2014 to 2017 during the second week of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City .
mode
A women's and a men's competition were held, each of which consisted of eight players. No doubles competitions were played. Only US citizens were considered for invitation. In addition to active college players, players who had finished their college careers in the summer of the same year were also allowed to participate. In both competitions, the following eight players received an invitation:
- The top two players in the world rankings
- The top five players in the college rankings
- A wildcard selected by the USTA
If one of the top five players in the college rankings was already qualified via their world rankings, the sixth best player moved up.
The winners in the women and men were given the prospect of wild cards for the main fields of the upcoming US Open. The actual award was tied to the condition that the player in question had reached a certain position in the world rankings. Otherwise the wildcard was only valid for the qualifying tournament. In 2014, the limits for this were 250th place for men and 150th place for women. From 2015, the limits for women and men were uniformly 120th place.
