Amnesia is the fifth studio album by German singer, composer and producer Stephan Remmler from 1996. Remmler retired from the music business for about ten years after it was released.

Emergence

All Remmler releases, including those of his former band Trio , were released through Mercury Records . Remmler switched to MCA for the album Amnesia . For the first time in ten years, he no longer produced one of his solo albums alone, but together with Markus Löhr , the former keyboardist in the band around Hubert Kah . Remmler had also composed some of the songs together with Löhr. For the song The murderer at midnight contributed Luci van Org in the text. As with the previous album Vamos , the music was played by Udo Lindenberg's panic orchestra. The instrumentation of some of the songs was supplemented by wind instruments.

So far, all of Stephan Remmler's solo works have appeared under the name “Stephan Remmler”. In Amnesia of was the designation given name omitted, d. H. The album and all singles that were released were only released under the name "Remmler".

The song Heut geht die Sonne nicht auf was originally supposed to be released from the album on October 28, 1996 as the second single . For unknown reasons, the single was made, but then never went on sale. The single Only Love is the Answer , which was released in April 1997 , is a slightly revised version of the song What else ... in which the chorus is now sung in English by the singer Brooke Russell .

Musical description

Musically, the album can be assigned to rock music throughout . In terms of content, the majority of the songs deal with everyday interpersonal stories, with the lyrics being partly coarse ([...] Find someone who pisses while sitting [...] / [...] when you hold my small tits [...]) . At four in the morning Remmler published another drinking song here . The song “ Pig's Head”, which is released from the singles and describes child prostitution in the third world from the child's perspective, has a special position .

reception

The Amnesia album received poor reviews overall. In particular, the first single pig's head met with incomprehension. The associated video was not shown at all on MTV , and only once in the news on German music broadcaster VIVA . On the radio, the song was only played once by twelve stations. In August 1996, the events of the Belgian murderer and sex offender Marc Dutroux were just known when the single pig's head appeared in September 1996. The song was therefore linked to the incidents in Belgium, although Remmler repeatedly stated that he had written the song a year earlier:

“I already did this piece about child prostitution in the third world in '95, and we have now been caught up with the events that it is no longer just there, but also here in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, this has become very topical. "
