The Ampferkogel is a 3183 meter high mountain peak of the Geigenkamm , a subgroup of the Ötztal Alps .
Location and surroundings
The Ampferkogel rises from the ridge that runs north from the Puitkogel (3343 m) to the Hohe Geige (3393 m). South of the Ampferkogel are the Weißmaurachjoch (2953 m) and the Weißmaurachkopf (3069 m). To the north the ridge leads over to the Silberschneid (3343 m) and from there, slightly offset to the northwest, on to the Hohe Geige. Seen from the west, the mountain has a striking appearance, which comes from its steep west ridge pillar. However, the summit has only a low notch height and dominance . In the northern flank of Ampferkogels still find the remains of the White Furthermore - glacier .
First ascent
The first ascent of the Ampferkogel was carried out by F. Hörtnagl, K. Mayer and L. Prochaska on July 24, 1897. They won the summit over the E ridge and then descended to the NE. The west ridge was first climbed in 1921 by R. Czegka and Ludwig Obersteiner .
Ascent
The normal route leads from the Rüsselsheimer Hütte (2323 m) initially marked on a hiking trail in the direction of Hohe Geige. Later off the path and over rubble, scree, remains of glaciers and crags to the northwest into the gap between Ampferkogel and Silberschneid. From there over the north ridge to the summit. Difficulties in climbing grade I have to be overcome.
An ascent of the Ampferkogel is also possible via the south ridge from the Weißmaurachjoch, the difficulties reach III on this route. Degree. The same difficulties await the climber on the way over the west ridge.
