Amphoe Krong Pinang ( Thai : อำเภอ กรง ปิ นั ง ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Yala . The province of Yala is located in the extreme south of the southern region of Thailand on the border with Malaysia.

Neighboring counties and areas are (clockwise from east): Amphoe Raman , Bannang Sata , Yaha and Mueang Yala . All Amphoe are in Yala Province.

etymology

The name Krong Pinang is a Thai adaptation of "Kampung Pinang" ( Jawi : كامڤوڠ ڤينڠ ), the original Malay name. It means village of the Pinang . The word pinang is the Malay word for betel palm (Areca catechu) .

history

Krong Pinang was initially set up as a subdistrict ( King Amphoe ) on April 30, 1994 by separating four tambon from the Mueang Yala district . On October 7, 2004, Krong Pinang was granted full amphoe status.

There are no cities ( thesaban ) in the district. Each of the four tambon is administered by a " Tambon Administrative Organization " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organization, TAO).
