Amphoe Bannang Sata ( Thai : อำเภอ บันนังสตา ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the south of the Yala Province . The province of Yala is located in the extreme south of the southern region of Thailand on the border with Malaysia.

geography

Neighboring counties and areas are (clockwise from northwest): the districts of Yaha , Krong Pinang and Raman of the province of Yala, the districts of Rueso and Si Sakhon of the province of Narathiwat and district of Than To in Yala. To the west is the state of Kedah of Malaysia .

etymology

The name Bannang Sata is a Thai adaptation of "Benang Setar", the original Malay name. Benang is a string , setar is a tree with small sour fruits ( Bouea macrophylla ) .

history

The area of ​​today's Bannang Sata County was originally a district called Ba Cho ( บาเจาะ ), which was established in 1907 and administered by the city ( Mueang ) Raman. The name Ba Cho is the Thai adaptation of "Bachok" ( Jawi : باچوق ), the original Malay name. When the government reformed the administration at the beginning of the 20th century, the administrative building of the district was moved to a new location. At the same time it was renamed Bannang Sata.

There are two small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:

  • Bannang Sata ( เทศบาล ตำบล บันนังสตา ) consists of parts of the Tambon Bannang Sata.
  • Khuean Bang Lang ( เทศบาล ตำบล เขื่อน บาง ลาง ) consists of the whole tambon Khuean Bang Lang.

There are also five "Tambon Administrative Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO) for the Tambon or the parts of Tambon in the county that do not belong to any city.
