Amphoe Betong ( Thai : อำเภอ เบตง ) is the southernmost district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of Yala Province . The province of Yala is located in the extreme south of the southern region of Thailand on the border with Malaysia .

Neighboring counties and areas are (clockwise from north): Amphoe Than To in Yala Province and Amphoe Chanae in Narathiwat Province . To the south is the state of Perak and to the west is the state of Kedah of Malaysia .

history

The area of ​​today's Betong County was originally under the administration of the Mueang (City) Raman in Monthon Pattani. In 1868 Betong became an amphoe with the name Yarom, in 1930 it was changed to Betong.

The name Betong is a Thai adaptation of "Betung", the original Malay name. Prayer means bamboo .

  • Bala Hala Forest - a lush tropical rainforest bordering Narathiwat with many rare species of plants and birds; Members of the nomadic Semang (Sakai) also live here
  • Betong hot springs - in Tambon Tano Maero, 5  km outside of Betong; Here, eggs can be hard-boiled in seven minutes at the hottest point
  • Chaloem Phra Kiat Ro Kao Waterfall - in the Tambon Aiyoeweng, about 30 & m high waterfall surrounded by lush rainforest
  • Inthason waterfall - around 15 & km from Betong with pools for swimming and relaxing

Local administration

Betong ( เทศบาล เมือง เบตง ) is a town ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district, it consists of the entire Tambon Betong.

Than Nam Thip ( เทศบาล ตำบล ธาร น้ำ ทิพย์ ) is a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) , it consists of the entire tambon Than Nam Thip.

The other three tambon are each administered by a " Tambon Administrative Organization " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organization, TAO).
