history

On August 26, 1992, the Minister of the Interior gave his approval for the establishment of the Doberlug-Kirchhain and surrounding area with its seat in Doberlug-Kirchhain. August 28, 1997 was set as the date on which the office was established. At the time it was founded, the office comprised the following communities in what was then the Finsterwalde district (in the order in which they were named in the official gazette):

  1. Arenzhain
  2. Buchhain
  3. Throats
  4. Hennersdorf
  5. Lugau
  6. Trebbus
  7. Werenzhain
  8. Prießen
  9. Doberlug-Kirchhain

The municipality of Nexdorf was assigned to the Doberlug-Kirchhain office on October 5, 1992 by decree of the Brandenburg Interior Minister. The community of Frankena was incorporated into the city of Doberlug-Kirchhain on December 31, 1999 and moved to the Doberlug-Kirchhain and surrounding area.

As of August 31, 2001, the municipalities of Werenzhain, Prießen, Dübrichen, Hennersdorf and Nexdorf were incorporated into the municipality of Doberlug-Kirchhain. Buchhain followed on December 31, 2002. As part of the municipal reform in Brandenburg , the municipalities of Arenzhain, Trebbus and Lugau were incorporated into the city of Doberlug-Kirchhain by law. The Doberlug-Kirchhain and the surrounding area was dissolved and the city of Doberlug-Kirchhain was made vacant.

The municipality of Lugau lodged a municipal constitutional complaint with the constitutional court of the state of Brandenburg against its incorporation into the city of Doberlug-Kirchhain, some of which was rejected, the rest of which was rejected.
