There was a city court in Weinheim since the Middle Ages . With the transition of Weinheim from the Electoral Palatinate to Baden in 1803, the Weinheim Office was founded, which took over the first instance in criminal and civil matters. In 1857 the administration and judiciary were separated in Baden and the Weinheim District Court was founded. It was housed at 10 Rote Turmstrasse. More rooms had to be rented as early as 1868 before the Grand Ducal Building Inspectorate Mannheim had a new building built for the local court at the turn of the century. Due to the increasing workload, the number of judges' posts was increased between 1957 and 1968, and the move out of the land registry and the notary's office made it possible to gain additional space in the district court building. Nevertheless, the continued existence of the Weinheim district court was up for grabs in 1972/73 when the closure of small district courts was discussed. Instead, however, the judicial district was expanded to include Ladenburg and Schriesheim.

building

The district court building was built between 1901 and 1904. Planning and construction management was the responsibility of the Grand Ducal Building Councilor Schäfer, who at the same time was responsible for the new construction of the Mannheim District Court . It is characterized by neo-baroque sandstone decorations. The coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Baden , also made of sandstone, crowns the corner gable of the roof . The entrance portal is in Art Nouveau style. The originally existing service apartments were converted into service rooms as the staff expanded over time. Between 1995 and 1997 the district court was outsourced and the listed building was comprehensively renovated. The historic furniture has also been restored.
