The Wittenberg District Court , a court of ordinary jurisdiction , is one of five District Courts (AG) in the district of the Dessau-Roßlau District Court .

Seat and District of the Court

The seat of the court is Lutherstadt Wittenberg , the district town of the Wittenberg district . The 1520 km² judicial district includes the cities of Annaburg , Bad Schmiedeberg , Graefenhainichen , Jessen (Elster) , Kemberg , Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Zahna-Elster . More than 107,000 people live in it.

For insolvency proceedings is Amtsgericht Dessau in charge, which is also central enforcement court is. Dunning proceedings are processed by the Aschersleben District Court , the joint dunning court of the states of Saxony-Anhalt , Saxony and Thuringia . The registry court is the Stendal District Court .

The court is located in the Dessauer Strasse 291 building, which is a listed building. It was built in neo-Gothic style from 1907 to 1909 based on designs by the Merseburg government building officer Friedrich Beisner , the government builder Wilhelm Trautwein († 1914) , who was transferred from Pyrmont to Wittenberg in May 1907, and the Wittenberg district building inspector Hans Abesser . The inauguration took place on December 4, 1909. The former official prison to the north also came from Beisner.

The District Court of Dessau-Roßlau is superordinate to the Wittenberg District Court. The competent higher regional court is the higher regional court Naumburg .

Its predecessor was the Wittenberg District Court, established in 1816 and located in the town hall.
