The Anabarbucht ( Russian Анабарский Губа , Anabarski Guba) is in the northwest part of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and in the northern part of Siberia and Russia ( Asia located) and only Bay of the Laptev Sea ( Arctic Ocean belonging) Anabargolfs ( залив Анабарский , Anabarski Zaliw) and at the same time the estuary (estuary) of the Anabar , a river of the North Siberian lowlands .

Geographical location

As a rather elongated and relatively narrow southwestern part of the Anabar Gulf, the southwestern part of the Arctic Laptev Sea, the Anabar Bay joins the North Siberian lowlands and thus the northwestern part of the northeastern Russian Republic of Sakha. It takes in particular the Anabar stream coming from the south from the lowlands, whose water flows through the bay to the north into the Anbargolf. A little to the east of the bay lies the Prontschishcheva Ridge .

The bay is about 24 km long and on average 5 to 7 km wide. There are many shoals in its southern part ; at the same time, however, its deepest point is there at 12 m. The hills on the east coast of the bay are a maximum of 73  m high and those on its west coast reach up to 60  m high. In addition to the Anabar flowing in from the south and other rivers, the Suolema from the west and the Uele from the east flow into the bay . In the small estuaries of these inlet tributaries and in the Anbar Bay itself there are a few small islands, the largest of the main bay is called Arangastach ; it lies northeast of the influence of the Uele and is about 5 km long and 1 km wide.

Flora, climate and ice

In the hinterland of the vegetation-free coasts of Anabar Bay, tundra with mosses and lichens predominate, with frost rubble deserts extending to the beaches. The winters are long and extremely cold, the summers short and cold. The bay is covered in ice from around October to July . When the ice and snow melt in summer , the Anabar often drives high water through the bay into the Anabar Gulf.

history

The Russian polar explorer Eduard Toll (1858–1902), the first researcher to map parts of the landscape between Anabar and western Popigai and Anabar and eastern Olenjok , explored Anabar Bay in 1893.

Localities

There were two settlements on Anabar Bay during the Soviet Union : At the transition between bay and gulf, Chorgo was located southeast of Cape Chorgo  ( ) not far from the east coast, and Chorgo was located in the south on the east bank near the influence of Anabar into the bay, thus opposite Suolema estuary, Tostuja  ( ). There are no settlements on the bay.
